Spinal surgeon arrested for performing unnecessary surgeries

A spinal surgeon with offices in Kentucky and Ohio has been arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigations on charges of making false statements in health care matters and for health care fraud. The FBI says the surgeon performed unnecessary surgeries on patients and then fraudulently billed health benefit programs, such as Medicare, for millions of dollars.

Wrong medication basis of medical malpractice lawsuit

A medical malpractice suit has been filed in the death of a 60-year-old man who received the wrong medication while undergoing surgery to repair a gastric perforation. The suit was filed against North Carolina Baptist Hospital and Wake Forest University Health Sciences by the son and daughter of the decedent; however, this case could have easily occurred right here in Lexington, Kentucky.

Ohio University settles medical malpractice lawsuit

A medical malpractice lawsuit filed in Kentucky's neighboring state of Ohio against Ohio University has been settled for $250,000. The lawsuit was filed by a student who claimed she was misdiagnosed in 2007 by the university's Hudson Health Center and that led to the amputation of her right arm, shoulder and shoulder blade. She had contracted a flesh-eating bacteria.
