Hal is a partner at O'Brien Batten Kirtley & Coomer, PLLC. Oral advocacy, particularly trial practice, is a passion of his. He has experience successfully trying civil and criminal cases, and he has successfully argued before the Kentucky Supreme Court. Hal is licensed to practice in Kentucky, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky and the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He is AV Preeminent peer-review rated through Martindale-Hubbell.*

Hal handles primarily nursing home abuse and neglect cases and medical negligence cases. He enjoys, and considers it a privilege, being a voice in the case for an injured person and his/her family members, whose lives have been forever changed due to improper care.

Hal graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law (Order of Barristers) in 2003, where he received the McClung Medal, which is awarded to the outstanding advocate of each graduating class. He was elected chair of the Moot Court Board. He was also a two-year member of the National Trial Team, which reached the national finals. Hal also received the 2002 Pryor Award of Excellence in Advocacy. Hal attended the University of Kentucky for college. He received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism in 1999 and a Bachelor of Science in agriculture in 2000.

Hal and his wife are the proud parents of twins (one boy and one girl). He has served as an elder at his church. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.
