We represent victims of hit-and-run accidents

A previous post on this blog reported the tragic case of a young woman dying following a serious car accident on one of Kentucky's roads. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident left the scene instead of staying and taking responsibility.

This sort of behavior makes it harder for the families of accident victims to get the compensation they need in order to put their lives together following the untimely death of a loved one, which is one reason why leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense in Kentucky. However, "harder" does not mean "impossible."

Our law office has the knowledge and experience necessary to help victims of hit-and-run drivers and their families get compensation for things like medical bills, lost wages and, in a wrongful death claim, funeral expenses so the family can focus on dealing with the emotional fallout the loss of a loved one brings with it.

We also advocate for our clients to receive additional compensation in consideration of the emotional and other non-economic losses they suffer in the face of losing a loved one too early and on account of a preventable car accident.

In hit-and-run situations, ideally, we are able to help police identify the driver of the vehicle responsible for the accident and thus track down the proper insurance company against which to file a claim. When this is not possible, in many circumstances, we are able to instead go and seek uninsured motorists' benefits from the victim's insurance company. In Kentucky, personal injury protection benefits are also generally available to families.

However, it is generally a good idea for a family to have an experienced attorney represent the family when they file an insurance claim or, when necessary, sue either an insurance company or the driver who was at fault for the accident.
