Victims of falls at nursing homes can get compensation

One could argue that just about any business in Kentucky has some obligation to keep their guests safe and prevent them from slipping and falling. However, this is especially true for nursing homes, which are facilities that Kentucky families have specifically trusted with the care of their sick or elderly loved ones.

Unfortunately, patients at nursing homes can and do fall for a variety of reasons. In some cases, this is simply an accident. However, in many other cases, a slick floor, bad lighting or an improperly adjusted bed can cause a fall. In still other cases, a patient may be feeling the effects of his or her medication and cannot hold his or her balance; or, the patient may not be able to move as well simply because he or she has not gotten enough exercise.

The nursing home in these types cases can, and should, prevent such incidents from happening. However, for a lot of reasons, the staff of the nursing home may not notice or may even ignore such dangers. In other cases, the non-responsiveness of a staff member when a patient rang a call light or was just obviously struggling to keep balance causes a stumble to turn in to a damaging fall.

Those who do fall are not like children or young adults who, in all likelihood, would just get up. It is quite easy for nursing home patients to suffer broken bones or other serious injuries after a fall. In some cases, a fall could even hasten or cause a patient's untimely death.

Families have rights in these sorts of situations, and the attorneys and other professionals at our law office have the know-how and experience to help families stand up for their rights against often well-financed nursing homes determined to keep their reputations and bottom lines intact. We work hard to get our clients the compensation they need and deserve after a preventable fall on a nursing home's watch.
