Millions will be on the road for Memorial Day

On Behalf of | May 24, 2018 | Car Accidents |

According to the American Automobile Association’s (AAA’s) figures, there will be 36.6 million motorists hitting the highways and roadways of Kentucky and other states this Memorial Day weekend. This is an uptick of almost five percent over the number of people who traveled by car this time last year.

It is not surprising that many people and families choose to travel via car over Memorial Day. Culturally, it is a long weekend that marks the start of the summer season, and many people take it as an opportunity to visit coastal locations and other cities they might not ordinarily be able to travel to.

For its part, AAA anticipates that it will have to assist over 300,000 motorists across the country during this weekend. While these rescues will generally involve mechanical problems, there’s no doubt that with the increase in traffic, there will also be an increase in car accidents.

Moreover, Memorial Day is well-known as a holiday in which there are a lot of drunk drivers on the road. It is not surprising that there is generally a spike in the number of fatal car crashes over this weekend.

If a Kentucky resident should have the misfortune of being involved in an accident over this weekend that leaves them injured, it is important for them to remember that legal options may be available to them. For instance, an injured person may be eligible to file a lawsuit against those responsible for the accident in an effort to recover compensation for things like medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.
