According to a recent report, while Kentucky does not have the worst drivers in the country by a longshot, the drivers on this state’s roads also have considerable room for improvement.
Out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, Kentucky ranked as having the 21st worst drivers, making them slightly below average but certainly in the middle of the pack. It bears mentioning, though, that many states in close proximity to Kentucky fared worse in the survey results, with both of the nearby Carolinas ranking in the top ten states with bad drivers.
This report considered a number of factors before ranking the different states. It looked at the rate of fatal car accidents in each state per 100 million miles driven, but it also took a closer look at some of the statistics as well. For instance, the report considered the number of fatal accidents attributable to a driver’s speeding or drinking and driving.
The report also considered other deadly accidents related to different types of law violations, including infractions like failing to wear a seatbelt or blowing a stoplight. Finally, the report also considered how often people on foot or on bikes were being killed by motorists who, for whatever reason, were not on the lookout for them.
The report should be a challenge to the people of Kentucky to pay better attention on the road, follow the traffic laws and, generally, be on the lookout for others. The report also tells us that Kentuckians can easily be victimized on the road by a bad driver. When this happens, though, victims have legal options for holding bad drivers accountable for their conduct.
