$55 million settlement approved in nose doctor malpractice case

When doctors perform fake or unnecessary surgeries, the toll it takes on the patients is high. However, the financial toll on the state could be high as well. A $55 million medical malpractice settlement has been approved by a judge in Indiana in a case that involved 282 former patients of a nose doctor.

Defensive medicine's offensive flip-side

For many years, lawsuits against doctors, medical facilities and any other entity associated with the medical field for malpractice have been attacked. The attacks have come from just about everywhere, including Kentucky insurance companies, politicians and medical professionals.

Report ranks Kentucky near bottom for senior health and care

United Healthcare Foundation issued its first report on the health outcomes of people age 65 and over. Kentucky ranked just 45th out of the 50 states. The study used various statistics which were then separated into four categories or "determinants," which are clinical care, policy, community/environment and behavior.

Man sues hospital, doctors for emergency room negligence

A 66-year-old man has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a Mercy Clinic in Missouri, alleging emergency room negligence after he says two doctors at Mercy Hospital failed to provide proper treatment for a flesh-eating bacteria infection he had in 2010. The lawsuit, which is scheduled for a September trial, claims he was not given proper emergency care because he did not have medical insurance, and it resulted in the bacteria spreading across his left buttocks and leg.
